Buying Advice - Pontiac Grand Am GT
Hey. I am looking to buy a car and I am getting help from my Dad with it but he doesn't exactly know everything about cars. So, we found a car - a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT. It's very nice looking and looks like it's been taken care of real well. Can any of you give me some information on these cars?? Or what to look for... or just have anything to say about them in general??? We test drove it and I really liked it but I still don't know much about the cars. I thought it would be nice to get some information from some people who do know a little bit more. Thank-You.

Re: Buying Advice - Pontiac Grand Am GT
I only know its pretty much the same as my car and i love it. I had some issues , but i took care of them. I am pretty rough with mine and will always be. I had it for 2 1/2 years 130,000miles and it runs better than the day I bought it.

Re: Buying Advice - Pontiac Grand Am GT
one of the biggest problems with the 3400 is intake manifold gasket leaks. other then that theres not much, some cars have break warpage issues, but that is more then likly attributed to hard stopping. how much is it and how many miles are on it?

It's $8,500 and has around 50,000 miles on it. I drove it around and everything felt great and my Dad seemed fairly impressed with it.

Re: Buying Advice - Pontiac Grand Am GT
That deal depends , us or canadian , what condition is the car in , 50,000 miles + fair condition + good maintenance record automatic is worth 7,000 canadian here , standard is 6,200 canadian. Thats a basic apraisal , the grand am doesnt hold value well at all , but is a good car with lower maintenance than most.

Hm, my '01 GT coast $13,800 total (tax, tags, etc) with 31K miles on it, and it's immaculate... so yours sounds like a fairly good deal.

I bought my 1996 grand in 1999 with 85,000kms on it. I paid $14,000 for it and now it has 150,000 kms and similar cars here in Canada are still going for $4000-$6000. But I think it is a question of how good condition the car is in and how well it is maintained when asking for a price. I've had the same problems that many of you have had on this site with my car. Power window regulator, intake manifold and bad breaks. Otherwise, the car was maintained well with documentation. Great body still and shiny paint, not a speck of rust on the body whatsoever. I've noticed that the front bumper is dulling and some small scratches from wear and tear which is why I want to repaint her but otherwise, no problems.
