head lights dim occassionally 2001 Aurora
I have noticed that the headlights and maybe the interior lights dim for just a second on occasion. At first I thought I blinked or was going crazy, but I have decided it definitely happens. It has been going on since the car was new and hasn't gotten worse or better. I found a tsb summary online but can't get the full version. Does anyone else have this problem or does anyone have access to the full tsb?
Technical Service Bulletins Summary Make: OLDSMOBILE Model: AURORA Year: 2001 Service Bulletin Number: 010603007 NHTSA Item Number: 624067 Summary Description: EXPERIENCING AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION IN WHICH THE HEADLAMPS OR INTERIOR LIGHTS MAY DIM FOR UP TO 10 SECONDS IN COLD WEATHER. *TT |

Re: head lights dim occassionally 2001 Aurora
You must have the 3.5L V6 (aka Shortstar). There's an issue with this engine and the alternator which causes this condition (also shared with the Intrigue). There are replacement alternators but they don't seem to fix the problem (there are some people on their 4th or 5th ones). Unfortunately GM wants to sweep this under the carpet...

I noticed the same thing with my 2001 Aurora 3.5. Like you said it doesn't really hurt anything, but you know something is wrong.
