I bought my blazer a year ago with 44000 miles on it. Ever since I've had it it makes all kinds of rattling and creaking noises on any road imperfection. I think it is coming from the interior panels but I'm not to sure also I think it once had an aftermarket radio removed? any suggestions it very annoying
P.S. This is a great web site Last edited by plant; 03-13-2004 at 04:25 PM. |

I've had the same problem w/ my 2-door '01 Blazer. They claimed it was the spare tire on the back shifting around, but after "fixing" it, I have the same problem. Appears to be the area around the passenger rear window. I have asked several dealerships to look at this problem and they all blow it off. Over-all, ownership of this vehicle has severely impacted my STRONG impression of Chevy vehicles. If anyone has any ideas/solutions, I would be very greatful!

Re: 2000 ZR2 rattaling noises on every bump
A friend told me the bushing on the ouside spare was probably broke considering it made of plastic but the noise does come mainly from the same area as yours. I used the soft part of velcro tape to line the inside panels expecially the powerlock/window contols which helped a little but it really pisses me off still.
Does anyone know how to remove all interior body panels without breaking them? I think some stuff must be loose under them. Any help would be greatly apreciated |

If you haven't had your spare checked out, it might be worth a shot for SOME improvement... supposedly the glass and tire mount were not alligned properly. Such a wonderful design they on this!

My 2000 Blazer does this too. My fix is to turn up the radio a little bit. With my Blazer I hear it from the rear, almost like the glass is rattling or the spare tire is vibrating somehow. It is possible that the squeak is coming from the rubber boot that comes into contact with the tail gate when you close the spare tire arm. Who knows, it can come from anywhere in the back end of the vehicle. Just turn up your radio a little bit.

I had the same problems on my 98 Blazer. After several hours of work itīs now almost rattlefree. The worst rattles came from an Instrument Panel holder behind the cluster. After applying some grease itīs gone. The next is where the front doorpanels are touching the metal part of the door. Here I used Armor All between this. By the way: Armor All is very good stuff for rattling and creaking Interior Parts. Just spray the areas where panels are mounted to each other...

My 2000 ZR2 squeeks also. Check your speaker grills in the rear. Thats where mine was squeeking. Good luck.

Rattles seem to be the norm for these trucks. One dealer told me if I wanted a quiet car, I should have bought a Cadillac.."you bought a truck, you can't expect it to run smooth." Needless to say, I have not returned.
The obvious rattles on these vehicles include the hood hinge rattle (do a search to see how to fix it) and the other being the rear lift glass where the striker on the window hits the latch plate. Sometimes you need to adjust the rear window handle (loosen the two bolts and re-align) to stop the plate from rubbing. If you look at the striker plate on the window, you will probably see a metal mark where it is rubbing. Keep the weather stripping flexible with silicone spray, and as one of the other posts mentioned, Armour All works great on plastic on plastic contact. I use quite a bit of Armour All (sprayed right on the panels) when I clean the interior, and I have very few squeaks. Two way tape/weather stripping also works well if you stick it behind any areas where there is plastic on metal rattles. |
