96 GTP rough start

I have a 96 Grand Prix GTP that i just recently bought. it has 86,000miles on it. sometimes it is hesitant to start- and it wont start at all until i give it gas. any ideas, suggestions??? thanks

have u done a basic tune up yet? who knows when the previous owner had it tuned up last.

Wires
Tstat
Fuel Filter
Air Filter

i havent yet had the chance for a tuneup. any idea how much the parts are for a GTP

dbgiss, the most important part. Make sure you replace the air filter and the fuel filter. Is not that expensive. If that does not fix it, then the plugs, cables. If that do not fix it, then Check the MAF, O2 sensors. At this stage the car should be a lot better.

it gets better

i havent had the opportunity to have a basic tuneup done yet - so i got off of work the other night and got into my car, went to start it up and it went "CLACK" and a huge fu@#$%^ puff of really white smoke came out of the engine compartment from the hood vent directly in front of the driver side in front of the firewall. i waited for the smoke to clear and started it and it still runs. anybody have any idea what im lookin at now.

p.s.
the engine was COMPLETELY cold when this happened.
