Under hood mess

Greetings,

I have an '86 Toy pickup witha 22R. Aside from legal ramifications, what cna I remove from under the hood? I am wanting to rip all the emission components and the mile of vacumn hoses.

I am thinking performance would increase as well but thought I would ask here first.

Thanks!

Opus

Re: Under hood mess

i have a carbeurated 1990 22r, and it seems to run happy as larry with all the emissions and vacuum lines hooked up. I did mild exhaust work, a small shave, and some port work. other than that, left it relatively stock, and like I say, it works well.

This runs ok too. Problem is that it is a rats nest and I want it all gone. There are vacumn lines tha are no longer connected. There are things missing as well. I have no desire to buy parts to correct it, nor read on how they all get hooked back together.
When I open the hood of my '63 Ford, I see 1 vacumn hose and about4 wires.....that is what I want to see when I open this.

Re: Under hood mess

Once you get rid of that stock carb. and install a 32/36 Weber, that should do it. It'll simplify carb adjustments as well as clear up the vacuum lines. The original carb has just too many vacuum ports coming out of it. I had a 79 pickup with a 20R, and an 83 pickup with a 22R. Both of them ran better once the carb was replaced. These Webers are usually sold with an adapter, air cleaner, and some extra linkage parts. All you'll need to hook up is the distributor vacuum line, and plug the rest of the vacuum ports (on the engine). You may want to check your local emssions laws (Montana?) to see how strict they are. Good Luck .
