Lowering car, buy parts in what order?

Firts off it's a 99 EX civic, I want to lower the thing but have some quetions about the process. From what I have been reading on this board I need to buy Springs, shocks, struts and coil overs?? That is fine but I can't afford all that stuff at once. My question is can I buy / install say the shocks & springs now and then when I have more cashflow do the struts coils later? I have a few friends who will be helping me install. Thanks! Also do I need parts then I posted above?

dont quote me on that but to the extent of my knowledge you either get coilovers or springs not both. but you should be good with jsut coilovers and shocks for now

Re: Lowering car, buy parts in what order?

Personal preference here, but I'd go with shocks first, then some springs. From what I understand on the situation (plus my friedn's old eclipse) coil-overs just don't do as well as springs... Unless you go for complete kits, but those are pretty pricey. But spring AND coil-overs can't be done. It's one or the other, and like I said, I'd chose springs. Don't go cheap either. I just put in my Tokico Illumina 5-way adjustables with the Eibach pro-kit the other day, and now it has a much better stance, plus it's stiffer than hell, or I can make it give too. Very pleased. Hope that helps.

Re: Lowering car, buy parts in what order?

yea..springs are set heights for your ride as where coilovers are adjustable... if you go coilovers i heard that ground control makes some good ones but it wont be as good as getting the total kit itself... coilovers tend to make a clanking sound when driven cause there hitting the shockks and stuff... but it all depends on how stiff or lose you want it to ride... i havent done it to mine yet but i was told to change the springs for your ride height then the shocks to adjust how bumpy it is when driving...ever see cars just bouncing on every single little piece of rock it hits the ground.. well.. dotn quote me either.. haha

Re: Lowering car, buy parts in what order?

You should start with shocks and springs. Preferably a matched set that has been know to work very well with each other...i.e. H&R Cup kit is a perfect example. Tein S-Tech Springs with KYB-AGX shocks works well.

Stay away from eBay's $50 coilovers...you'll thank me later.
