Question U-Bend & Resonator Removal

I haven't had my 98 GT for 8 months yet, but I really love it and stumbling onto places like this makes it all the more fun to see what kind of potential the car has (not that I have the know-how or the pocketbook for a lot of these mods). I was curious though, if I go for a simple u-bend and resonator removal, what can I expect? Will the power difference be noticeable at all? Will there be much of a sound change while driving? Is there anything negative to look out for if I get this done? Being new to all this, it seems like a cheap and beneficial change and I just want to see if it's worth it. Also, I know performance benefits show themselves here, but do any of the mods, specifically this one or a CAI, improve gas mileage? I'm not a racing enthusiast like many of you, just an everyday driver who'd like to try and increase his car's performance and maybe make it sound a bit beefier in the process. Being new to all this, I'm a little overwhelmed by all the information that's on here, but I'm learning, even if it is slow. Thanks for any input, I appreciate the help.

Cool

I understand. I have a 2001 GTP. 2 weeks after I bought my car (brand new) I took it over to the muffer shop (Auto Conection) and had the u pipe and res. taken off and and replaced it with a straight pipe. The whole 2 1/2 stock pipe from the convter back changed over to 3 1/2. Cost me about $125. Now if you have it done like I did make sure they mark where your O2 sensor goes, and put it back in the same spot or you might get the "SES" light to kick on.( I never had any trouble) Now the sound was a little louder but not much. But after I did that the car ran alot smoother, and I got better gas mileage. After I did that I changed the pully on the s/c. Took off the stock (3.8) to a 3.4. Cost $65. Then pulled out the air box and put in a 9' k&n air filter. Cost $60. And removed the screen from the intake. Cost Free! Now I have spend around $250 in mods. I drive coast to coast with this car. I get around 32 mpg on the highway and 21 in the city with all these mods.(When I don't get on it) HAHA! I'm very happy with the extra boost I have now, don't get me wrong I would love to have more, but I want it to be used for daily driving as well.

Re: U-Bend & Resonator Removal

You have a GT with the L36 engine. Do not; repeat! Do not go any larger than 2 1/2 exhaust pipe. You will loes power! The GTP's have the supercharger that lets them go to 3" pipe.
