Please Help: Fire the sub through the rear armrest?

I currently have:

Rockford Fosgate 851s Power 2-channel amp
two 10" JL Audio W6
Sealed Box
Dynamat Extreme dynamatted trunk

Since the box is in a sealed trunk, the sound is rather muffled. I was thinking of ways to get more sound in the cabin. There are basically 3 options. One way is to completely take out the 2 rear speakers between the back seat and rear windshield. The 2nd option is to drive with the rear seats down. And the third option is to fire the sub through the armrest. Taking out the rear deck speakers will reduce quality at low volumes (I dont ALWAYS crank my music). The 2nd option doesn't help when I have people in the car. And so, the third option seems to be the best idea. The problem with this option is, like I said, I have a sealed trunk. That means, no ski pass, and I'd have to cut through the metal behind the armrest. Lets say I take this option of cutting behind the armrest, I am still left with 2 choices.... Have the subs facing the newly cut pass to the cabin or have them facing the trunk and fire back through the pass and into the cabin.

I was hoping someone could help me out with some technical info as to best set this idea up for optimal sound. Any suggestions would help. I am actually installing the subs tomorrow, so please reply if you can. Thanks in advance.

Re: Please Help: Fire the sub through the rear armrest?

I did the 3rd option by removing the seat and removing the padded material only, from behind the armrest back section then flip the seat over open the armrest and take a razor knife and cut the material from corner to corner in am "X" shape not cutting to close to the edges so when you fold back the material it doesn’t show the razor cut.

Use a spay adhesive and spay the back of the set and when the adhesive sets for a little and according to the directions then fold the four piece to the back an stick the perfect square (you can also pre spray before you cut your "X" shape).

I used a screened mesh they use in gutters to catch leaves I got from my hardware store it has a nice curve and a perfect width you have to cut the length I painted it black banged flat some of the edges and attached with silicone and let it se up before reinstalling the seat and now when you fold down the armrest it has a finished look and it fits just between your cross brace so no metal cutting required.

As for the box placement it depends on what box you got and your power, what worked for me is the speaker facing towards the trunk opening and wit about a 3" space from the armrest hole. I tried facing the hole but the bass dropped dramatically. I have a sealed box with two MTX thunders and a Bolt Mono amp. I get about 200watts.

Also rip out you trunk liner and insulate and also the trunk lid insulate that the worst sounding car is a rattling one after all the work you did Lows Hardware sells this material like they insulate your cars carpet with the purple gray looking stuff but thinner in the flooring dept I used this to insulate the trunk floor its about $40 but you get enough to do two trunks if you wanted. Good Luck. I hope this helps.
