Hey I know your new to the site and everything so let me help you out. The same question your asking is all over the place in this forum. Theres a search feature you can use to search for info on you crx.
But anyway the first thing you need to do is get a motor swap if you want it to be fast. If you try to build that SOHC motor you'll waste your time and money. I don't know what your budget is for the project but you will probably get the most bang for your buck with a 1st gen B16A.

Re: Building A Crx

thanks yeah im very new. iwas lookin into buildin a b20vtec but im very new to the engine seen also ill probably need someone to help me build it

b20 becasue of its torque which i think is 133lbs-ft@4300rpm rather than the b16a1 112lbs-ft@7000rpm

now i have a question : If i use the b20 block and slap a b16 head will the specs change and in what way if they do?

( the way im thinking if i put the b20 block and b16 head ime getting 158hp@7600rpm and 133lbs-ft@4300rpm )

and do you think i can use the tranny for the b16? or will i have to get a differ one?

the main problem with a ls-vtec or a b20-vtec is that to make the horsepower you have to rev the motor to high rpms. The problem with high revs is that the b20, and ls do not have a good rod stroke ratio. The rod stroke ratio is basically how much force the piston puts on the cylinder chamber when it moves up and down. So if you build a b20 or a ls vtec i would put the b16 crank in the motor to give it near perfect R/S ratio. I am not certain on how your horspower, and torque will be effected but i know if you can keep the motor together you will make around 200+ all motor. Yes you can use you b16 tranny with the b20 block.

Re: Building A Crx

Then you wouldn't have n e compression. Just get a GS-R crank, rods, and pistons. Put all of that into the B16 block and you will have a alright rod to stroke ratio. You can but some ITR pistons and cams in there and you will basically have an ITR motor short of some minor things.

go with like a b18c or something of that nature. b20 is a good engine, but it is a lot to play around with and i think it is too much to hassle. plus you would have to have a shop to conver the b20 to vtec, unless you know your shit and have all the tools.

ehh i hear alot of good things about the b20, so , so far im still leaning on the b20vtec and it'll probably give me and my friends something to do. i have a shop where we do alarms , graphics and sound systems etc we got a 3 car garage so we prolly can do it over the weekend when we are closed.

But im still open to some pros and cons about the engines but like i said b20vtec soundin sweet at the moment. h22a i hear lays to low in the crx so 4get that gsr and type r is way to much $ for less torque
