J/K Shift right around redline usually, you can go a little over, or under redline, or right on it. Or if you can find out where your torque comes in, like say if your hp comes in at 8500, your torque migt come in around 5-6, we'll say 6K, when you shift to the next gear hopefully it'll drop right to 6 grand, that way you dont drop below your powercurve. I dont think I did very well explaining that

Re: Shifting
It depends on your engine's power curve, your transmission and gearing, and how fast you can shift. Like was said above, ideally when you shift your engine's speed will stay in its powerband. Depending on how you shift, you will want to shift early enough before the redline so that you don't hit the redline when you disengage the clutch. Without a dyno and a quick hand, the best method is simple trial and error. You don't want to shift too early and bog the engine down, however you don't want to shift too late. Shifting to late not only can cause you to hit the redline, but it could hurt your acceleration performance if the power at a given point in a given gear results in lower acceleration at a lower RPM in a lower gear.
You might want to respond with what kind of car and mods you have. Mention what engine and tranmission you have and rear differential ratio if you have a RWD car, etc. Someone may have information thats a bit more application specific for you.
