97 taurus part 2

My 97 wagon also has a strange problem; the "door open" light comes on at random times, and stays on for different amounts of time; from 10 minutes to 2 weeks. It's bad enough that we took out bulbs for interior door-activated lights, because they stay on. When engine is off, key has to removed from ignition because chime doesn't shut off. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: 97 taurus part 2

Replace or clean the switches. My 97 Sable had to have all 4 replaced for the same problem. The switches are attaced to the interior door handle, they're small and have 2 wires. You do not have to remove the entire door panel.
