High Idle Problem - V6

I've got a '93 Rodeo (V6/Manual trans) that has suddenly decided to go berzerk. When I come to stop (or let off of the throttle), the idle zooms up and down a few times before settling into an idle at around 2000 rpm. After a minute or so the idle will slowly drop down to a normal level.

Now here'e the crazy part... If I'm on an incline and move only a few feet (in neutral), the idle again races up to over 2000.

Obviously, something crazy is going on, but I can't seem to trace the problem.

HELP!!!

Re: High Idle Problem - V6

I think remember this.

There is a rubber boot thing on the throttle cable in the engine bay. Over time the rubber breaks down and causes it to stick.

I don't know where it is located at. You may want to do a search here to see what you find.

Thumbs up

A sticking throttle cable can do what you are experience. On my 1993 it was a combination of stuck cable and shot electric vacumn idle motor. The little motor is black and is located on the throttle body. It has two screws and a wire conector. Mine was about $40 at the local auto parts store. Works fine now with a lubed cable and a new idle motor.
Good Luck
