Blown Tranny 2000 GLS 102K miles

As I write this I am getting a rebuilt tranny installed. Car has 102K miles. Did I keep the car too long? Am I going to get any more pleasant surprises as I go forward?

Here is what I'm interested in. How good of care did you take of that transmission? Did it get a fliud and filter change every 30K. Whats the rebuild going to cost?

I really enjoy our 2000 Intrigue. Just bought it at the end of last year. I would probably put a new transmission in mine if I were you. I mean, if everything else was in great condition, why get another car?

Not Enough

I probably only had it serviced at 50K. I was getting ready to bring it to the dealer and have them do whatever it took for me to go another 50K or so. Foolishly, with much regret, I decided to have it rebuilt at a local transmission place at a cost of 2350.

I then, just a few days later said, "F-it, I'm tired of American cars falling apart after 75K miles. I'm in sales and I put 30-40K miles on my car annually. After thinking about it, I bought a new Honda Accord top of the line last night. I've never felt better matched with a mid-size quasi luxury car before.

I wish you the best with your Intrigue. I'll always have pleasant thoughts about my car.......until it hit about 75000 miles :o((

Sorry to hear it, eastsidestu. My tranny went at just under 75K miles and I, too, had the hassle of rebuilding the tranny at some local place for over $2K. For the last 8K miles, though, the car has been the most problem-free it has ever been. I think I finally sunk in enough money to fix whatever abuse it had done to it before I came along. I am hoping to get at least 3 more years out of it. Good luck with the new car.

Good luck to you too. As I said, I really enjoyed the car most of the time. A part of me wishes I kept it now that I have a big payment every month :o)) One thing I forgot to mention though was that the mechanic said he was getting codes that said the engine was not acting right. At that point I felt it was best to move on. I think if Olds stayed in biz I might have bought a new Intrigue instead.
