SL or GST/GSX?

Ok...befor i was going to get a VR-4 (at 15 years old). But i desided thats wouldn't be the best for right now.I'll get the VR-4 when i'll 16 or 17.But right now i'm going to get a SL or a GST/GSX.What one should i get.I would think the GST/GSX would be better on insurance and gas.But then i dont know. The SL has better looks...but the GST/GSX has the turbos. And i like turbos.IMO...i think the GST/GSX would be better for now. What do you guys think?

I will be modding it up.So i think i would be easier to mod the eclipse with the turbos in it.Its easier to put a boost controller and turn up the boost then to put a higher C/R in the car.Thats just me.

Re: SL or GST/GSX?

How old are you?
How long do you plan on keeping the car?
What goals do you have for the car?
How will you drive/race it? (Drag/AutoX/etc...)

Re: SL or GST/GSX?

If you are not going to be competitive drag racing at a track, there is no need to do 11's. If street racing is your thing, you can beat 99.9% of cars on the road, including just about every ricer doing 12's. Even corvette Z06's only do mid 12's, and you're going to run into those MAYBE 3 times a year. Point is, there is no need to have a car that does 11's if you're only going to drive it on the road as your daily driver, and you want to pull away from hondas. I would advise you to go with the turbo eclipse (it has only 1 turbo by the way ), because it responds to mods far better than SL's (as you mentioned). You will have a VERY difficult time running 11's in an SL unless you intend to TT it (which defeats the purpose of not getting a VR4!

Re: SL or GST/GSX?

Yea...when i said doing 11's..i didn't mean that i would...but i want to try. Also when i said 11's i was talking about the eclipse...not the SL...SL's are to hard to mod up like that...to do 11's i should say.Just like you said...which defeats the purpose of not getting a VR4! Why should i buy a SL in the first place if i'm going to TT the SL.But want i want to know is...should i mod up the eclipse...or just get the SL and do some little mods (intake, exhaust and stuff like that) then when i'm 16 or 17 get the VR-4?

SL all the way. Looks better and it has a good engine. Better than any american V-6 out thier. If you compare to GM"s "3800" engine it beats it in every catagory. Weighs less, More power, Extra Cam, and easier to mod. Oh yea and can handle better in higher RPM. So go with the SL.

Re: SL or GST/GSX?

Definitely GSX/Tsi AWD. Check the sig, and you should be able to tell I made a good decision Awd turbo dominates

I was going to get a GST but unless your a mechanic I wouldnt go for it, those break like crazy unless you get lucky. SL tends to be able to avoid breaking as often and you can still kill most ricers.

Re: SL or GST/GSX?

intake/headers/exhaust
lighter flywheel
turbo/supercharge
underdrive pulley(controversial...I wouldn't, but you can)
engine work...racing pistons, rods, cams, lifters....
You can do plenty, the question is how far you would push it and how much money you are willing to spend.

Re: SL or GST/GSX?

RIPP is designing/designed one for the N/A and its supposed to be amazing. I think the SOHC version is done and they are proto typing the DOHC at the moment. Heres the link to the thread on 3si.
