I recently snagged an '01 1500 with 20000 miles. I've noticed that when pulling a trailer the overdrive doesn't always want to kick in. When going down the interstate she'll shoot up to 3100rpm when coming up a grade, and then only fall back to about 3000. This is enormously frustrating. It does not always occur, but does a lot, especially when it's windy. The service guy at the Dodge dealership says he experienced this as well with his, when pulling just a 300lb trailer. He said there's nothing that can be done and suggested I step up to the hemi. Some help.
I've never had this issue with Fords or Chevys. Am really regretting this purchase. Somebody tell me it's sensor issue, please.

Re: Overdrive problems when towing
Don't tow in overdrive, its a quick and easy way to wreck any automatic tranny, ford chev or dodge. I know they used to list that in the owner's manual. Stick with direct to avoid burning the tranny up.

Re: Overdrive problems when towing
For sure don't tow in overdrive...what Pind said...bad idea...
If you have the 318, I have found my 2000 to be somewhat underpowered for hauling, no matter what the manual / sales material said... |
