My motor is definately not flooded.
When I go to start my car, it starts fine and then within 5 seconds shuts itself off. It won't maintain an idle at all. Even when I try to idle higher it kills itself. Any ideas????? |

Re: 2nd Gen won't keep running
Check your BAC or TPS settings. Or check for vacuum leaks. Or you can also check to make sure your AFM is plugged in properly.

Re: 2nd Gen won't keep running
The AFM is a good idea Dayna has posted. Also, make sure it's something simple like having an empty tank of fuel.

Re: 2nd Gen won't keep running
Check your idle setting...If your idler is off it could cause it to drop too low on the rpms and shut the motor off. Another sign of this is if you have to keep reving at stops or redlights to keep it running.

Thanks guys. The gas level is fine. I don't think the idle adjust has anything to do with it because even if i put more gas on it after ignition it still kills itself.
I'm thinking more and more that it's probably a vac of some sort. Let you know what I come up with. |

My 2nd gen won't run either
I recently bought a '91. It was idling rough only at start up but drove fine for several weeks. (The car had been sitting for a year when I bought it but cranked right up w/ a new battry )
I parked it one nite and the next a.m. the starter wld turn but the engine wld not crank at all. Sounded like no fire at all. I had it towed to the dealer and they say it needs a TPS and coolant sensor at about $1200!!! They say it is running now after they got it un-flooded but could stall and stop at any time now. My questions: - Does this sound like the likely prob? - Can I change these sensors myself? (I have changed both on Ford and Chev eng's before and I have the rx7 Haynes manual already) - Is this common on 13b rotaries? |
