Re: 1996 keyless entry programming

I'd say our 01 is different but the owner's manual covers this, quite a procedure.

Do you need to reprogram or just to resync. after battery replacement? To resync. just hold lock and unlock buttons for seven seconds while standing close to vehicle. The locks should cycle. If not then:

RKE module is mounted on the left side under dash..has two plugs......your remote probably..just needs to be remprogrammed.....here is what you do with your year. Use a jumper wire to connect pin 8 and pin 4 on the diagnostic connector, DLC, doors should lock and unlock, unlatch rear window.
press and hold any button on the first transmitter to be programmed:
the door will again lock and unlock.....
pres any button of the second transmitter to be programmed
again you will hear the doors lock and unlock (stores the code)
remove the jumper...
and test
all transmitors must be reprogrammed at the same time

Or there is a red connector with 2 wires on it...should be near the RKE module....short those 2 together (just a paper clip)
you will hear the door lock and unlock

To further help, your keyless module is attached to the panel you pull down to gain access to inside the dash. You will then see the little red plug that was mentioned.

Hope this gets you started anyway.
