Squeak when turning

I have a squeak when I turn. It is onthe drivers side and up front? Possible cause? Ball joint? How do I tell?

I have a 99 taurus wagon with a 3.0 engine. New rack and cv joint on the drivers side. Noise was there before I replaced the cv axle. Rack was done 6 months ago and I don't think is related to the noise.

I am having the exact same problem on a 2000 taurus. And I have heard this exact noise on a earier model taurus in a parking lot. Do you have any more info on this??

I havn't replaced anything on mine, and mine is when I turn the wheel to the passenger side, noise is on passenger side too.

1994 ford taurus

I have the same exact problem and it has progessivly gotten worse, i cant seem to find out what the problem is. Ive had quite a bit of stuff replaced 3 months ago when i got it inspected and noone has said anything about what it could be.
Front left axle replaced 1 year ago, right from axle replaced 3 months ago, 4 new tires 3 months ago, new brakes and disks all around and drivers side rear caliper replaced 3 months ago.

I cant figure out what this sound is, next im thinking tie rods or struts or something.

Its only when im going at a slower speed it doesnt happen after about 45. Sound is really loud when comming off an exit ramp around 15-30mph

It comes from the drivers side front. lemme know if u have any ideas.

Wish I had an answer to this as well. I have a 92 taurus that has had this problem ever since I bought it 3 years ago. Sounds like the squeaking is coming from the drivers side but thats all I know.

It's never gotten any worse or better for that matter so I never have bothered to have it checked out when I have had it in the shop to get other things worked on.

Re: Squeak when turning

it might sound stupid, but it may be the strut bushing at the top of the strut. i've seen it first hand in older tauruses, and i recently heard a newer one (2000+) doing the same thing. let me know if anyone tries this and what the results are.

edit: does the sound resemble a high-pitched creaky wooden door? sorry, not too good with the analogies. that's the first thing that came to mind when i read this post though.

Re: Squeak when turning

Hi... I'm new to the group, but I do have a 2000 Taurus. It squeaked on the passenger front side, and sounded like an old wooden door. The squeaking you're probably hearing while turning is your upper tie rod bushing gone dry. Ford installed them as "maintainance free" with no way to grease them. You have to puncture a small hole in the rubber housing boot and spray the "hell" out of it with a penetrating oil. (Something plastic and rubber friendly...) You can have aftermarket tie rods put on with greese zerks so you can keep them lubed. I would suggest NOT going to Ford if you're having them replaced. They install their famous "maintanance free" tie rods. Good Luck!

If it's a strut bushing, open the hood and turn the wheel, you should be able to see or feel the bushing sorta jump or vibrate. This bushing is located right above the wheel, should have, I beleive three bolts holding it, basically where your strut comes out and mounts under your hood. If it's a tie rod end it would probably also be noisy when going over a long bump (where the car sorta bounces smooth, more like a hill and not a pot hole) and if it does also make the noise over a long bump, you might want to check your sway bar link. These are made of polly bla, bla, bla, plastic and I've had to replace one 2 months after initially replacing it. (metal on plastic is prone to make squeaks)

Re: Squeak when turning

Everyone check your sway bar bushings. While cornering there is a different load on one side.

I'm having the same problem on my 97 Taurus. The noise started at the front right tire area when I accelerated from a stop or slow speed. It doesn't do that anymore but has switched to the left front tire, when I am turning left. I took it to one Firestone that said that the CV joints were fine, but the inner tie rod had to be replaced. I had another Firestone check it when I took it in days later for an oil change/tire rotation. They said the CV joints and tie rod were fine, but suggested I change the front brake pads (which actually are fine). I'd like to hear if any of the repairs above fix the problem. Thanks!
