Does anyone know the exact location of the factory-installed amplifier in a 1997 or 1998 Explorer? I'm trying to find it and bypass it to improve my sound quality. Thanks for any response.

Amp Location
the amp should be located in the pass. side rear 1/4 panel. you either have to take panel off or you might be able to reach it through the storage cubby that ford put back there. if you are running a nonstock deck then you will need a bypass kit. you just unplug the two sets of wires going into the amp and put this jumper in between. i had the same problem when i put in a deck and a subwoofer, this fixed the problem. hope this helps

Hey thanks a lot Mike, I guess I'll give that a shot. It should be fun trying to get to the amp. If I may ask, what problem did you experience when trying to run a nonstock deck with the factory amplifier?
