Re: cams and valvetrain

you may want to change the springs and retainers is u want ur RPMs to redline at 10,000. Otherwise if u leave it stock then the stock redline is most recommended. If u were to rev ur engine to 10,000 on stock springs and retainers then ur valves will just be floating cuz it is moving so fast that the springs wont even have time to react. Know what i mean? If im not mistaken... if u get a stage2 cam... they recommend to swap out ur stock springs and retainers. I know stage one u can leave in ur stock ones. Nah get some springs and retainers tho.... its worth it. Seeing ur Tach bounce and reving to 10,000 and still making power is something u gotta see. Good luck buddy!

yes you do need to get new springs and retainers, as he said the motor wont be able to handle the higher lift and duration of the new cams, eventually the stockers will break and cause alot of damage.

Re: cams and valvetrain

You might want to consider getting just the springs. The titanium retainers that come with the kit are a wear item, they wear rather quickly IMO you have to check them at around 10K and keep a close eye on them. I have heard of people having to replace them after around 15K. The stock retainers will hold up, the titanium are just lighter basically.

Yes same gap. And you absolutely, positively, 100% want to upgrade you valve train with ANY stage 2 cam.

Re: cams and valvetrain

last question on this i promise. stage 2 cams are called street/strip, so how reliable are they for long trips, like 500 miles?

Re: cams and valvetrain

You are talking about the 62403's right? If so then they will be fine on a long trip. I know some guys around here that have them and they have had no issues with them. You will need to get the motor tuned after you install them though, or it will run kinda rough, and run rich at idle.
