2000 Explorer tailgate problems

The tailgate on my 2000 Explorer will not open. The window opens fine, but the tailgate itself will not. It seems to be sticking on the left side. I could pull out on it while pulling out the handle and get the right side to open. May be a problem with the linkage. Any ideas on how to fix this, maybe a linkage diagram I could use to trace the trouble or other suggestions or tips?
