HP and Torque limitations W/ Tiptronic
Poerformance Mods and the Tiptronic (Post #1)
I'm looking to go to forced induction with my '93 968 W/ Tiptronic trans. With the exception of going all out and switching to the 6-spd, does anyone know what the limitations are, and whether I would risk damage with a supercharger or turbocharger that should produce about 325-350 rwhp? Also, does anyone know of other options for forced induction? I have checked out the Powerhaus and Anderson Motor Works turbo conversions, the Speedforce and Ninemeister supercharger kits, and I want to check out everything before I dive in. Cheers, Micah

While I'm not sure of the limitations of the stock tip tranny, I know that Kokeln makes a mean 968 turbo conversion.
It's quite possible that nobody has blown up a 968 tiptronic with too much power. The 968 is a pretty rare car, and most of them came with a 6 speed, which is naturally a better choice for performance applications. You could always try driving with your Tiptronic, if it doesn't blow up, then you're fine. If it does, you'll end up swapping in a 6 speed anyways. Try talking to some domestic transmission builders like B&M or JET, and ask them what you can do to strengthen an automatic transmission.
