blower control module
The fan on my '97 GP recently stopped working correctly. It only blows air out when on setting 5. (the highest setting) I've been told that this is a malfunctioning blower control module. Do you guys agree with this diagnosis? Thanks!!

Re: blower control module
It could be the resistor. In my car it failed and the blower only worked on level 3 up to 5. It was the blower motor resistor and is located behind the radio on the evapoarator enclosure really high. It is a pain to get it out, but usually that is what it fails not the switch and is inexpensive ~20 bucks.

Re: blower control module
kilroypr is right its the resistor if it only works on 5 its mostlikely the resistor Same problem I have had once before... when it was in dead winter and then it would work then not it sucked... but anyways its under the dash on the passanger side way up there "pain in the ass" to get to any info need just respond back hope that helps... the part costs only 20 dollars (that is what i got mine for)

If it is indeed a "pain in the ass" to get to, how much is it going to cost me in labor to get that $20 part replaced?

Re: blower control module
This is ROCKFORD0384 on my buddy account Its not really A big pain in the ass, it just takes a little time to get it out, because you have to reach all the way up to the dash basically from under the dash to undo 3 screws which 2 of them come out really easy compared to the 3rd that has like a rubber piece that is in the way of making it easy to get out. (unlossen it a little though so you can move the resistor a little bit to get it out) you should see it if you look up there

Re: blower control module
I have not checked it recently but to my humble understanding there is no relationship between the ignition switch and the A/C blower motor control. It is a simple circuit with a fuse on it. The resistor has 6 prongs, a common for all setting and the other have varying OHM's depending on the fan speed. The higher the fan speed the less the OHM being used on the resistor. It is not simpler than that. If you know somthing for sure, please, share it with us. I love to learn

Re: blower control module
Understanding the relationship between the Ignition switch and the blower control. The ignition switch feeds the blower control through a fuse in the fuse box and consequently when the ignition switch goes bad, it will not have enough power to supply the fan through the blower resistor; But, it has enough power to kick in the blower high speed relay.

Re: blower control module
I'm going through the same thing. I park my GTp through most of the winter. Only getting it out if need be. My problem is, no fan at all. I was told the same thing you guys mention. It'll be getting worked on this spring, in the warmth. LOL
Thanks for the tips though guys! Chris |
