radio security lockout after 7 tries

My 99 malibu after a radiator flush,i guess the mechanics disconnected the battery and shut off my stereo. So i tried to punh in the code seven times and then all of a sudden it permanently locked me out.The manual said i had to contact the dealer. In which i did and they are charging $50 + tax just to get a codeon the stereo and then send it to a company in the mainland to get another code to unlock the stereo system! Please help.Is there another way around this other then paying $50 on a service i can just do it myself?

Had the same problem when I changed the battery in my car. However, my GM dealer here in Edmonton Alberta did not charge anything to reset the security code.

You might want to try another dealership, if you have a choice.

Sorry I cna't be more help.

Code for unlocking chevy radios: 1) Press and hold presets 2 and 3 or 1 and 4 for 10 seconds. Copy first 3 digits of the display code. 2) Press the AM FM button, write down the next 3 numbers. 3) Call (800) 537-5140, enter 139010 (or 202107) followed by asteric* button, then enter the 6 digit code from your radio. This service center will give you the code to unlock your radio.

Thumbs up Malibu INOP hell

okay. info on this site for unlocking a locked Delco radio in a Malibu is outdated. After you've run your car for an hour and got the 6-digit code and then called the 800-number, they'll ask you for a dealer account number. the one i used that worked was 620-529. Then, you go about as usual. Plug in your 6-digit code and push * Voila!

Talking

Thank you very much for posting this. Thought I would let others out there know that this info is still relevant and working with the dealer #'s listed below. I just cancelled my appt. with the dealer and saved myself at least several hours or a full workday without my car.

Re: radio security lockout after 7 tries

I know this is a long shot since this is a very old post, but I have a 2004 Chevy Malibu and just installed a new factory 6 disc player, but it says "locked" is there any way I can unlock it without going into the dealership... they charge almost $100 please help... holding in the 2-3 presets or 1-4 presets doesn't do anything... Thank you.

Re: radio security lockout after 7 tries

Well I know it is tied to the VIN, so some one has to reset the VIN.
