I've only been driving a stick for about four months I'd say. So I was thinking to myself, maybe I'm not driving correctly?
What would you guys say is the best in regards to good gas mileage? I heard it's possible to go too lean? Like 35mph in 5th for example or something around those lines? This is kinda hard to nail down exactly I guess since we all have different setups, some stock, some pushing 400+ HP. And there can be a big difference going even 5mph less or more in a certain gear, so kinda have to be precise as well I guess. Anyway maybe a dumb question, but I thought I'd never know for sure if I don't ask. ![]() BTW staying in 1st gear (for longer than a few seconds) with 4,000+ rpms probably isn't a good idea huh? (I do that sometimes when racing, etc...) |

Re: Different Driving Styles ... Most Ideal One?
Gas milage is determined by throttle position mostly, so don't worry about being 35 in 5th to stay at 1500rpm or whatever.. it's not necessary.
I wouldn't use the term 'lean' but if you are at a low low RPM it doesn't help much at all. If you were trying to accelerate from 0 to 60 at 50% throttle (briskly), it would take LESS fuel to shift at 6000rpm than if you did at 3000. RPM doesn't affect gas milage. |

Want good gas mileage? Take the route with less streetlights... I drive 50 miles each way to get to and from work on the highway.. dont sit in much traffic either.... Got 300 miles out of my last tank.. Everytime i get to a big hill. i just throw it in neutral and coast for miles....
Having to continously accelerate from a streetlight is a killer and youll eat up gas spoolin that turbo when you put an intake an intake on..
