Question Hey there! Im thinking about buying an 87 Fiero GT...

Im in the process of selling a VW I had absolutley no luck with, and the top candidate which Im considering replacing it with is an 87 Pontiac Fiero GT. Im a full time student and a full time worker, so I spend alot of time commuting, and although I do have some mechanical backround, Im no master, and I havent owned a domestic car since I was 16. The Fiero has 130,000 miles, and it's the original owner Im buying from. It has perfect carfax. It's an automatic (boring, I know =( but still very exciting to drive, and nothing wrong that I could see, hear, etc. Is this a reliable car for a daily driver? How long until I have to dump money into it? Many people who I ask locally about this car tell me to stay away, but for no credible reason. I really love this car, I hope it's sound, because it sure is sweet to drive. If anyone has some advice for me, please get back! Id appreciate it.

Replace the Modu. and the coil pick up, plugs and wires and the dist. cap, the O2 senser and the car will give you at least another 50K, easy if the car is sound now!

Re: Hey there! Im thinking about buying an 87 Fiero GT...

Any car can have problems, but a few wrenchs and some logical thinking go a long way. And of course we're here to help

If you like to transport a lot of "stuff" The 2-seater with baby trunk isn't the best for a daily driver, but they are great on gas and you end up giving fewer rides

74-79 Ramcharger or 100, slant or no motor - not interested in v8 - Overdrive 4 is a big plus, NO hopeless rust buckets!!!
3Rd gen F body floor pans/camaro door skin (L)

Why is it I see so many "Proud to be an American" bumper stickers on the backs of cars made in Japan or Korea??????

Re: Hey there! Im thinking about buying an 87 Fiero GT...

My Fiero is still running strong at 151,000 miles.
I have had it for around 5 months now.
If you know a good mechanic...have them check out the major stuff and I say go for it.
Like another user already mentioned...they are a two seater, but hey, I'm divorced and I want one other passenger! LOLs.....I LOVE MINE!

Re: Hey there! Im thinking about buying an 87 Fiero GT...

The Fieros are a fun car to drive, although I wouldn't use a 17 year old car as a daily driver and primary transportation. ANY 17 year old car is bound to have problems.

My 87 GT (I'm the original owner) has only 101K mile on it and I don't hesitate to take it on trips, but I don't use it daily. The car has been trouble free except for replacement parts on routine maintenance items, has had no problems. But if something does go, I can put it aside and use my primary car for trips etc.

Fieros are great as a hobby car, but if you don't have the time, $, or skill to repair them too many years on the car and maybe too many miles.

Re: Hey there! Im thinking about buying an 87 Fiero GT...

there is nothing wrong with using a fiero as a daily driver (i use my 86 se everyday 171,000 miles and still counting).......there is nothing that is going to happen to them if u keep them up....and not run the shit out of them.... hey old is there some reason that you dont want to drive it around? (besides you think it is bound to have problems) which i have never had out of mine....
