Thoughts on 1999 Cougar.

Hi All. I'm looking at a 1999 Cougar on Ebay. Its a V-6, std, 80,xxx miles. There is a buy it now option of $5500, thats slightly higher than trade in price. Is there any known issues with that year Cougar? Looks like a sweet car to me!!

Thanks for your help and opinions!

Scott

Re: Thoughts on 1999 Cougar.

beyondloadedSE he said it was std, which means standard not trying to make you mad. Just letting you know.

I would rather have the 5 speed than the auto that makes the car seem worth it to me. I can't seem to remeber any major problems with the 99 year model but there may be some I'm not sure.

HI...I have a 99 Cougar I4 zetec MTX(5 speed) and it has almost 93,000 miles. I have never had a problem with the car. I recommend the zetec over the 2.5 for various reasons: gas, just as fast as the 2.5 atx(auto), cheaper to maintain and insurance. Check out www.fastcougar.com for tons of info.

Re: Thoughts on 1999 Cougar.

I own a 2000 Mercury Cougar and Have had nothing but problems with it. ANd after research I came to find out that generally most cougars have the same very EXPENSIVE PROBLEMS. They go though many alternators and fuel pumps. I have heard of the cougars breaking down up to 12 times in one year. And dealerships can not find a good remedy. I thought I would warn you.

i have a 2001 with 63,000 miles and have had NO problems.

i had a 99 that had 70,000+ when i traded it in and it had very few problems. only one small one that i can think of really.

also if it is a late build date 99 with the returnless fuel system then the fuel pump issue has been resolved there is a recall on the fuel pumps but only for returnless cars(late99-02).
