manual transmission will not shift into gear!!!
the manual tranny in my 1991 nissan stanza xe will not shift into gear not even while vehicle is not running. when started you can hear the throw out bearing squealing but stops when clutch is pressed...why wont the car take gear?????

im not sure exactly why it wont shift into gear but this is a known factory problem for some stanzas

the gearboxes in this model have a tendencey to break bits off the 5th gear synchro and this can prevent the selector working properley.
This is probably what the problem is. It could also be a damaged linkage between the shifter and the box |

I may also just be a loose linkage between the box. The throw out bearing is going to need replaced, crawl under the car and see if you can see noticable damage to the linkage, such as a rock may have hit it. Other than that, not sure what else could be. Sorry.
