97 Prelude TypE SH! QUESTION
hello people, i dont noe much about cars, but i was hoping if you people can fill me in about the 5th generation preludes, type sh also. I was planning to get a 97 lude SH and i am planning to race with it. I noe it weights about 3000 lbs and i was wondering if thats too heavy to race with. Most people race with integras and hbs, and i just wanted to get an insight bout the 5th gen lude sh. Fill me in please, thx.

first of all, if you want it for drag racing...i think your better off with the base model. SH just improves handling in cornering using something called Active Torque Transfer System (ATTS). I've also heard its a lil harder to modify SHs than the bases. Otherwise, theres nothing really different between the two models, except lil things like same-color side skirts, a tiny lil bit nicer rims (same size though)
Another thing...general consensus: Automatic Preludes !!SUCK!!

Preludes are faster than integras, crx's, accords and civics. Just check out the 0-60 times and quarter mile times. It does 0-60 in 6.7 and the 1/4mile in 15.10.

honestly, if you're just looking for a drag car. the prelude is NOT the car to get. if it has to be a honda, i reluctantly say you'd be better off with a teg or civic. lighter cars with bigger aftermarket. preludes make for much better street cars, but if you want to get ahead on the dragstrip, the prelude is left in the dust as long as the competitors have modded their civics and tegs enough, which isn't hard to do.
on the other hand, if yo'ure just comparing stock to stock, yeah, a prelude is faster. and you can make preludes smoke tegs and civics, but it'll take more than it would for a teg or civic.

Yup, if you want to drag, look elsewhere. But, Preludes are very good FWD handlers and can be very formidable PRO Rally and Autocrossers, especially in the Group 2 division.
If you really do want to drag and want to go for an affordable import, look at the 2nd gen 95-99 turbo AWD Mitsubishi Eclipse and Eagle Talon. The DSM twins have as much aftermarket support as the Civic/Integra, and are considerably easier to modify.
