Car Does NOt Start - Horn Beeps
Sometimes the car will not start. The horn will beep as if the security button on the wiper control has not been depressed. This has happened 2 previous times.
I tried waiting 10 minutes as noted in the manual, but nothing. I reset the door locks, opened it withj the keyless button, etc. etc. etc. Last time this happened, wereturned after a few hours and it started - no problems. Tonight, we returned after1 hr or so and nothing. Any help is appreciated Thanks ! |

You can try disconnecting the battery to let the computer reset itself...and at the same time clean the terminals and connections while it's disconnected. Just a thought

I tried the disconnect on the battery - but no luck. I also opened the car, inserted the key and waited 3 minutes before turning the key.
The security light flashes and upon inserting the key - the security light turns off. It looks as though all is good, but still the horn beeps when you try to start . I was wondering if the button on the end of the wiper/turn signal (that is depressed to avoid the alarm) is bad. Any more thoughts are appreciated. |

My partner has a 1999 sonoma that did the same thing come to find out the ignition switch was bad. The truck ran fine until the security light came on then no start Let it sit for a while 5 min. to 4 hours then it would start like nothing was ever wrong might act up once a month or once every 6 months.

Re: Car Does NOt Start - Horn Beeps
ndsysv - sorry no reply - just noticed it now....
The year model is 2000 V-6. I ended up taking the S-10 into a local shop hwre they replaced 2 relays within the alarm system. It seems that it worked for awhile - then it went back to the same problem. Only difference now is that the shop told me there was a bypass (Valet) switch, which I never knew about. Since the issue happend , we have just bypassed it until we get the oportunity to fix. I assume it was more than a relay. Bowtie - once in the past it did the same thing - we came back in 2 hours and it started right up.... hmmmmm... |

Re: Car Does NOt Start - Horn Beeps
is it the original key?? if not it could be a bad key, first off i would replace the ignition switch like everyone else suggested

Re: Car Does NOt Start - Horn Beeps
Sure sounds like aftermarket alarm to me. No OEM alarm should do what you state. It should go off as soon you open the door, not turn the ignition on.
