Oil Pressure Reading ????

Hey guys I needed some help with something. My girlfriend got me this really cool Autometer Oil Pressure gauge. It's a mechanical one, and I hooked it up this weekend...but I was just wondering about something. What is the normal reading that I should be getting when the car is warming up I'm usually sitting around 80psi...once the car warms up it usually drops down to 60psi and after like 20 minutes of driving it goes down to 40psi....is this all normal ???

I dont really know what the pressure should be while driving but I do know that the oil pressure switch sends currentl to turn on the oil light if pressure falls below 4.3 psi.

This what I have found:

Idle = 24 psi (after warm-up).
3000 rpm = 60 to 71 psi (after warm-up).

Re: Oil Pressure Reading ????

the only problem with the idiot light is that by the time it comes on there is usually already damage to the engine
I don't think your pressures are really too far off..when the oil is cold & thick, it is pretty high...anything over 35PSI is probably good enough, but I think that the Helm's manual says 50-55 is "normal"

Re: Oil Pressure Reading ????

well that makes sense becuase I'm using thick oil...I usually run 10-40 but the winter hit pretty hard this year in utah, so I switched to 20-50...
