anyone else seen this??

My opinion of Supercars.com has kinda waivered, since i saw this story:

Quote:
Malaysian Motorist Booked at 773kmh

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia -- A Malaysian man has been booked by police for driving his Toyota Corolla at more than half the speed of sound.
Resort caretaker New Ching Shit told the Star newspaper he had received a summons to appear in court this month after police recorded him driving along a stretch of highway close to his home at 773kmh (480 miles per hour).

He told the paper he was amazed that police believed his family car was capable of such speeds.

Nonetheless he said police were determined to press charges.

'Blatant mistake'

"It is ridiculous to say that I drove at such a breakneck speed," he said.

He added that the speed limit on the road in question, close to the city of Port Dickson, was only 60kmh.

At a press conference in Port Dickson Wednesday he told reporters that he was stumped after receiving the court summons because the speedometer on his car only goes as up to 160 kmh.

"How can the traffic police here make such a blatant mistake?" the Star quoted him as saying.

"I am even more amazed when a police officer insisted there was no mistake," the alleged 59-year old speedking said, adding that his friends had now nicknamed him the Malaysian Michael Schumacher.

He said that he was seeking legal assistance to defend himself against the charges.
Maybe its just me, but i cant really picture a Corolla doing 480 mph on a stretch of highway...

Re: anyone else seen this??

Defiently a radar error. That Corolla would be redlined before it got up to those speeds.

I'm pretty sure this is a

And supercars.net blows. The forum is mostly full of immature brats, and they try and make you pay for pictures that you can find elsewhere on the web for free.

Re: anyone else seen this??

dude that's totally false, no way a crappy corolla can top speed that fast. The world's fast car in production, the McLaren F1 has a top speed of around 230 mph. And a Toyota Corolla is definetly no supercar, that thing will probably top out at 40 mph and won't be able to get to the speed limit (exaggerating in case you didn't know)

Re: anyone else seen this??

...ok guys... if your radar says 480 mph... and you can 1.) see the car that's going long enough to identify it and 2.) perhaps pull him over... THE FUCKING CAR IS NOT GOING 480 MPH... USE SOME FUCKING COMMON SENSE.... I hate stupid people, radar error or not this is ridiculous.

argh, time to own.

The land Speed record was set by the Thrust SSC some years back at greater than mach 1, ThrustSSC set the first supersonic land-speed record of 763.035mph on 15 October 1997 in the Black Rock Desert, Nevada, using a pair of modified Rolls-Royce Spey Mk 205 jet engines, some serious hp.

That was clearly a radar malfunction, no car without extreme modifications could get anywhere near that. Top Fuel funny cars only hit 325 mph, most Bonneville racers are somewhere around that too, even the best ones can do much better than 400 mph.
