creaky doors...

I have a '96 2500 (7.4 vortec) - great truck, but it sat up idle for about 2-3 years and has developed some odd creaks and squeaks. I'm about to replace all dried rubber bushings in the front end to get rid of the biggest source of noise, but I can't seem to be able to find the right lubrication point to make the doors close without groaning. any suggestions?

the LR power window doesn't work. will try door-closing technique to jostle motor brush cotacts, but if i do have to remove panel, where do i start? only see two screws in the well of the handle. is that all that holds the panel on?

for the noisy doors check the pins& bushings. open the door and try to wiggle it up and down you will know if their worn they might sag a little too. as for the window check the wiring harness going into the door they've been known to break wires. to remove the door pannel i recomend getting one of those tools with the 2 prongs. pop out the plastic trim piece that goes around the door handle, remove the 2 screws in the arm rest. now theres about 10 plastic retainers around the edge of the door and a couple in the middle holding the pannel to the door. use the prong tool to pry a little at a time around the door to pop them out, once their all out the door pannel will lift straight off. just remember to unhook all the electrical wires. have fun!!

We just purchased a 99 Suburban and I noticed that 3 of the 4 doors creaked very badly when opening or closing. A little WD40 squirted on all of the exposed hinges did the trick.

thanks for the advice, all! i do indeed have a sagging door, as evidenced by the beginnings of scrape marks on the bottom and threshold.

will delve into the pins and bushings for that door and apply wd40 to hinges of all. as far as the window problem, advice from the forum on slamming the door with the switch engaged was a winner! window went down on the first slam.

this big monster has needed quite a few tweaks since i got it, but it's been a pleasure to work on. fixes usually work and stay fixed. hope you have the same luck with yours...
