Hello everyone, new

Hey everybody, I came across this forum today and jumped on board. I just wanted to say hi to everyone. I'll probably be on a lot because I am in love with the mistubishi 3000gt (especially mine ) and as soon as I get the chance I will post some pics of my baby. I just purchased my car in nov. and am currently saving up money to begin mods. Right now, besides some cross drilled rotors, she's all stock . . . any assistance in inexpensive upgrades is welcome and appreciated. I hope to talk to everyone soon, and thanks in advance

Welcome aboard

You won't need much money to start modding. Two of the esiest mods cost little to nothing. If you don't have emmissions testing, you can gut your cats and precats on your own. Put in an open air filter (K&N for example) which runs around a hundred or so. Pop in a boost controller for a couple hundred more and you'll notice a nice power gain.

thanks for the welcome . . .

I was planning on picking up a new filter and getting the gauge but I hate to admit I am not familiar with gutting the cats and precats. Any advice there or direction to a good source would be great.

Thanks a lot

Guttin the cats:
http://www.linkline.com/personal/amahoser/precat.html

There are plenty of other sites or people that can give advice, just make sure if you do it yourself that you keep your whole body and head covered because the dust is a pain to get out of your eyes and hair.

Also, just fyi, not sure if anyone said it already, but when you get a boost controller, definantly get a boost gauge as well. the stock boost gauge is highly inaccurate and if you start turning up the boost without monitoring it properly, you can get knock and destroy your engine. Once you have the boost gauge, you can safely turn your boost up to 14.5psi.

Great, one other thing I've been hesitant about is the fact that there are so many different manufacturers out there. What would be the best way to stear for a boost control and gauge

hmmmm

Stay away from gutting your precats, the word is on 2nd gen the engine light will stay on all the time. If you want a quick upgrade go for the manual boost controller for $18.00 an extra 2.5 pounds of boost goes a long way + 35 for the gauge as that is def a must! Start with the filter , its a must!! $95.00 K$N FIPK on gtpro.com

Re: Hello everyone, new

Yeah, gutting the main cat really doesn't make much sense, if I had no emissions, I would definantly put down 30 bucks on ebay for the testpipe. But I guess if you're really broke...

And duchguy, I am pretty sure that if you are careful not to damage your O2 sensor, then the light will not come on. I guess it would depend on the 02 sensor config. Not all 2nd gens are the same though. 96+ models are all OBDII. 91-95 are pre-OBDII.

And if for some reason, the light does come on...disable it
