differences between 84 and 85 vettes.

Ok, I've loved Vettes all my life, but I'm fairly new to the hobby of owning and working on them. I'm thinking of buying a mid to late 80's vette with a modest amount of miles. I was just wondering why the 84's are so much cheaper than 85's. I know the 85's have tuned port injection, but other than that, what's the difference?

Also, I read somewhere that the 0-60 time of an 84 was around 6.7 whereas the 85's was 5.7, and same goes for 1/4 mile. 15.5 as opposed to 14.4. Are these figures accurate? because if so, I'll just rule out any 84's as a possibility.

Re: differences between 84 and 85 vettes.

Basically, the '84 is known for having the Crossfire engine which historically, has not been known for its power or reliability. Plus it's the first year for a new generation Corvette and historically first year Vettes have had a lot of problems.

Re: differences between 84 and 85 vettes.

the 84 cfi system is not good if you leave it stock but the same can be said of the tpi. I've worked on vettes for a while and if you buy any vette between 84 and 88 your looking to have computer problems eventually. and be warned about that digital guage system, it goes out too. it really burns down to what you want to do and what sort of mods you want. tpi would be easier and cheaper than the cfi but the cfi stands out alone and people notice. I have both a cfi and lt1 vette and when people see me driving and hear my cfi motor they are suprised but other than that your not looking at much else. get the tpi but try to get a later year.

If you are looking for the C4 style, I would go for a later model, 95, 96. after the LT1 engine and they took care of the Gauge problems.
