gauges not working....please help

i recently installed a cd player into my 1990 jeep cherokee. when i turned the car on, gray smoke came out of the dash. i immediately turned the car off, and re-installed my cd player. when i turned the car back on, the rpm, temperature, battery, and fuel gauges would not work. the fuse for the gauges still works because everytime a new fuse is put in, the fuse blows. i have been told it is a short, but i do not know how to repair it, and i would like to do it myself for i do not know the cost. any wiring diagrams or advice would be helpful. thank you.

Pull the dash out and look at the wiring behind it. If you saw smoke, chances are that you'll see the "burnt" wiring unless it burned the pcb board in which case it will have to be replaced.
