lowering problem

I have a set of brand x coilovers installed on my 94 ls,
for people who have never heard of brand x, they are similar to ground control

i had it installed at the shop, professional and they left a one and half finger gap because it's high enough to clear a speed bump with the sporty look.
about a month later, i want it lower so i adjust it myself. I left no finger gap. The car is literally about 5-7inches off the ground (i think) and the problem is that... when i drive it, it makes squeaky noises.. like when i turn or etc. what the heck does this mean? the kinf of squeaking you would hear when your car is jacked up and u push the botton for it to lower down.. and u would hear the springs compress. any ideas??? Im thinkin to put it back the way it was.

Re: lowering problem

i'm not sure, but i know that my car squeaks as well, mostly when taking turns or sometimes when i get in/out of the car. i thought it was just normal b/c of the springs higher spring rate. but knowing me, i'm probably wrong.

at the top of each of the shock rods there is a 1.5" long metal sleeve that has play in it when you lower the car. that may or may not be why your car is squeaking but mine squeaked really bad because of that. if you undo the nut on the top of the shock rod (while the car is on the ground, i.e. not jacked up) then you can take out the sleeve (its right at the top) and cram hella axle grease in there that'll take care of the squeak.

you can also try jacking up the car, taking off the wheels, and spraying the SHIT out of all the bushings with a silicon spray.

i know with trucks when you lower then a lot then the bed flexes and causes squeak noises, so if your car is lowered i'm assuming it will cause the same thing. because if you think about it when you sit down you are adding... what.. 200 pounds to it? then the car lowers even more and the body flexes...

btw 5-7 inches isnt that low ... from the front bumper to the ground on my car is a 3 finger gap (a little over 2 inches).

Re: lowering problem

actually im not too sure about the "5-7inches" off the ground part. it was a bad estimate on a no finger gap between the fender and tire.all i know is that it's pretty low..so low, that you can't really twist the adjusting thing on the coilover any lower.

anywho, thanks for all the info...ill try spraying the SHIT out of it with silicon spray. any specific band you use? i'm thinkin going to a local autozone, pepboys or kragen to buy it...
