so i am wandering... just how fast are bikes? everyone says that 250 is amazingly slow, and that 600 is way to fast for beginers... and that 1000cc is just 'stupid fast' (hehe, my phrase!) well i want to know just how fast they are.
so 250cc- i have a 4-wheeler that is 250cc, it is really slow. but i really think (or i hope) that a 250c ninja is MUCH faster so someone give me a comparison here! gimme a 1/4 time! is it faster than my civic? (lol, it better be) if i had to guess i am assuming like 14 second timeslips. will it pick up the bike if you nail it in say 2nd? (without clutching it up) sence their is basicly nothing between 250 and 600c- how fast is a 600? whats some reliable 1/4 times? from what everyone says about them, i am guessing 12-13 seconds here? (that would be faster than almost any factory car) so will it pick its frunt up in 2nd? what about 3rd? and just how hard are they to hold up at a redlight? (not sure how much they weigh) and i dont even need to ask about 1000cc. (i read something about 10 second 1/4 on here somewere- THAT is STUPIDFAST )lets see, what else did i want to ask... oh yeah, how do they act with passangers!!! (i have a GF who i know will ride w/ me a lot...)

I dont know the quarter mile time of a 250 but last summer at the track there were quite a few bikes racing and here are the times.
I dont know what they had done to the bikes if anything these are just their times. Yamaha yzf600 9.8 yamaha yzf1000 8.4 then there was a Hyabusa turbo that ran a 6.2 so to answer your question yes they are faster than your civic. I raced my friend, I have a 2002 civic and he has a 00 honda CBR600rr and he beat me by at least 15+ cars by the next light and it wasnt even a quarter mile. |

Re: just how fast/powerfull are they?
there ARE 400 and 500cc bikes that make great starter bikes, you know. You can't say there's "basically nothing" between 250 and 600, when in fact there's a few good choices.

Re: just how fast/powerfull are they?
suzuki GS500 is another good one. Just do a little research that's all. I think 250 is too small of a bingger bike, but the 400's and 500's are perfect. Just look around online, at the various manufactureer websites and stuff to get the information you need.

the ninja250 ain't boring slow, it is slow but still fun as hell to ride. I ride a SV1000s daily, tons of torque, decent power(120ishp at the wheel with mod), pretty fast, but not stupid fast yet

Re: just how fast/powerfull are they?
Well I think he just has the times wrong. Those dont look like 1/8th or 1/4 times.

Nope those are the correct times for the 1/4mile at Joliet route 66 raceway. Like i said I dont know what they had done to the bikes or anything, and who knows they could have been 1000cc bikes with 600 bodies. But i did witness those bikes complete those times. I dont care if you dont belive me, i will still sleep well tonight.

Re: just how fast/powerfull are they?
Sure a busa turbo's "wheel" is capable of doing those kind of times but theres a thing called TRACTION and getting the power to the ground. Unless hes set up like the REAL DRAG BIKES then I dont see how he can get in the 6s. Im not calling you a liar dude its just hard to believe.

Yeah the busa had the extended rear wheel and traction bars and everything, it was far from stock. He is the owner of some racing team here in the midwest and hes always there. When i go in april I will take pics of the bike and the time board. sorry i didnt elaborate well enough.

Re: just how fast/powerfull are they?
Yeah ok that makes a little more sense. I totally thought you were talking about street legal drags. But hes far from street form.

Motorcycles are fast because of their power to weight ratio.
The 2004 Yamaha R1 (yes its stupidfast) weighs in at 170 kilos and has 176 horsepower. Thats FAST! Its like M3 with 1385 hp+... ... a 600 cc is less powerfull, but still insanely fast. A good starter, "sporty" bike could be the 400 cc honda NSR, its gone out of production dunno if u can get it in the states at all do some research ... i guarantee you speed !!!!
