I have a 1995 Jetta III GL, 2.0L man. trans. While driving down the hwy at 60mph, it suddenly & quickly lost power. When trying to accelerate it just bogged down and shortly after completely died. The car has about 86k miles.
I think I've narrowed it down to the fuel pump (or fuel pump system). I would like to know if the fuel pump runs on 12vdc. I am only getting about 10.5vdc at the fuel pump connector. I replaced the fuel filter and checked for fuel flow and there is basically none (at the filter). Any help, suggestions, troubleshooting tips will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Northwestdude |

Re: 95 jetta fuel pump trouble ???
The fuel pump runs off 12V, 10.5V is a little low, but may just be due to slightly low battery from checking things out. It would be better to have at least 11.5V back there with a charged battery. Regardless, the pump should still run (perhaps more slowly) off your current voltage. Make sure the ground is good too.

boschmann - you're right on the money. The problem ended up being a bad fuel pump sender unit. It was simply out of gas. New pump and sender unit and no more problem.
