Exclamation 95 Explorer 4x4 auto tranny fluid capacity??

I just changed the transmission fluid/filter and my Haynes Repair manual says the capacity is 4qts for 5R55E, and 5qts for the 4R70W trans.

My owners manual says the tranny is 4R55E and it takes 10qts, and it says this in 2 places in the manual! I'm sure I didnt drain 10 qts out but that is a big error. What should it be?
Thanks

Re: 95 Explorer 4x4 auto tranny fluid capacity??

I suspect the larger capacity includes all the fluid in the torgue converter. That won't come out with a drain. If you wanted to completely flush the fluid, a shop would add new fluid while it's running and the old fluid comes out under pressure.
