True Import Newbie. Need your insight

Hey guys,

Im Michael and I own a blue V6 Mustang.

I am getting rid of it and hopefully getting an Eclipse for two reasons 1) insurance 2) gas mileage.

I am looking at the second generation ones. I would like to get a gs-t but i will probably end up with a rs or gs. I like to know what are some common problems of the second gens.

If any of you guys cruise 3.8mustang or stangnet i go by babstangv6.

Thanks for all the help guys

you pm'd me about the 6 bolt swap.... its the motor, 6 bolt motors are in the older eclipses from 90-92, the motor in the years of 93-99 GST's and GSX's are 7 bolt motors which have a chance for crankwalk, thats not the reason i am doin the swap, my motor was already bad when i got it... so i just bought a 6 bolt motor so i wouldnt have to worry about it and it was cheaper anything to save some money!!!

welcome to the Forum!

Yep, crankwalk is common in the 7bolt motors but i wouldnt worry about that too much. Just worry about anything and everything breaking and sucking u dry...DSMs are poorly built cars, dont learn the hard way.

hold up... crank walk is not that common!!! if it was there would be a lot more cars that would have it and there would be a recall on it! now DSM's are not poorly built either... the only reason they will either break or anything will go wrong is if you give it a reason to break! like being hard on the vehicle, not keeping up on the mainance, other little things, the only reason DSM's break down as much as they do is because people drive them hard, they are a well build car its just how you take care of it!!!

Don't be ignorant. If you ran a mercedes as hard as most people run their DSM's (with twice the original horsepower), you will see what costs the most to fix. That's the reason people own DSM.

Second, crankwalk isn't common... so you aren't supporting your dumb opinion by that fact.

EclipseRST stop getting mad at people who don't know what they are talking about I would recommend a GST because he is looking for savings on money. But sure, you could still run it.

One of my friends had a 1st gen eclipse and sold it for a 98 stang gt and his insurance doubled. Also, mustang man said he would like to get a gst but would probably get a gs or rs. The turbo is what kills insurance rates.
