Question hp boosts...

Guys i am wondering what kind of parts for a 1995 Z28, besides s/c's and nos, that would give you a good amount of boost on hp, like anything under $1k, like good ass air intake, and some other stuff that can give decent-very good amount of hp boosts...
thanks

Re: hp boosts...

the best money spent on making power would be a set of heads, or at the very least working over the set you have, porting polishing, oversized valves, thermal coatings on the chamber, valve faces, and exhaust port. also put money into a good cam. i think it would be pretty easy to bolt on a good 60-100hp depending on what work you have done to your heads and what cam you choose, and you could easily do that for less than 1K in parts and labor. especialy if you put the parts together yourself, and therefore only pay for the machine work and parts.

With a 94, i would recomend a set of stock aluminum corvette heads, you gan probly get a junkyard pair for a decent price, and have them worked as i described above, and then throw a good cam in it. and be good to go. i personally preferr the comp cams xtream energy cams. they have prooven design for more area under the curve for a given lift, and make alot more power.

Re: hp boosts...

the first one works with a scooped hood, like an SS hood.

the second one takes cold air from the fender area, under the hood.

oh and 94 and 95 should be interchangeable.

Re: hp boosts...

as far as cost, youd have to check with people sellen em, probly around 250-300 bucks i would say, but that would include lifters, and lube and such. although the last time i checked was a while ago, they might have gone up. ill say 400 just to be safe for a full kit with the works. as far as power jump, no idea, ive never seen a back to back test of the xtream cam vs a stocker. id say that 30-50hp is a safe bet.

I've read several times that as long as your factory roller lifters are still in good condition you don't have to change them, But that would be up to you. A comp cam that is designed for the LT1 engine through summt is $239.95.They start out fom a valve lift of .480 intake .488 exhaust and go up to a .510 intake and .540 exhaust. And the roller lifters if you chose to replace will run you from $169 from Crane cams to $319 from Comp cams.

Also a set of headers and an aftermarket Y-pipe would do wonders for your horsepower also.

i've heard good things about the hot cam kit sold for the lt1, in fact i put it in the lt1 i have (one that's goin in my 3rd gen). for $509 u get the cam, tense valve springs, and 1.6 ratio roller rockers. plus if you get a heavy timing chain kit about $200 (comes w/ timing chain, heavy duty cam gear, heavy duty water pump gear, and heavy duty crank gear), u can crank more the 5500 rpms, i've heard rumors of a redline boosted to 6000-6200. don't know for sure, have to say i love turnin high rpms, if that's somethin u like to do too, u may want to look into those 2 kits.
