92 V6 power????'s

What's the best addition for power for the 92 V6 4Runner? Besides an engine transplant! Mainly bolt on's!

I have a 91 sr5 runner, i would say the best thing i did was change the exhaust system.

Get a set of extractors and a decent size exhaust on it. I am using 2 1/2" sport system with a single muffler.

as long as you dont mind a loud rig you will love it.!!!

Downey headers, a nice beefy 2 1/2" non restrictive exhaust, K&N filter charger. You'll probably notice the biggest gains from the headers. The old manifold system uses a crossover collector then routes back into single exhaust....bad. With headers your truck seems to wake up a bit. A cat-back exhaust system won't give you much, neither will the K&N, but together you will get pleasant results without having to swap engines. Also, depending on what size tires you're running, you might want to change the gears in the diffs.

Unless you are looking for the ultimate in top-end power, be sure your proposed exhaust system (headers + pipes) will increase your low-end torque. Increasing your high-rpm horsepower is not that beneficial if you sacrifice low-end torque. Look for headers that have smaller diameter tubing with at least one branch point before the collector. These don't give the ultimate in horsepower, but provide the best low-end torque with a significant upper-rpm horsepower gain.

I may be wrong, but this is what I remember from my small-block Chevy modification days.

Another modification you may consider is a new set of cams. These will give you any performance curve you want. The same caveat holds for cams as I described above for headers.

The best power increase would be to combine a matches set of cams and headers with both purchased with an eye on your performance goal and the characteristics of the other. These kinds of mods are more than additive in power if you think it out carefully ahead of time.

I'm not to interested in top end! Not in the the 4Runner anyway! Down low power is what I need and want. I think I will look into the header side first then the rest of the exhaust.
