99 Jetta --- no radio

Hello all,

I just bought a 99 VW jetta at a local tow yard. It has light rear damage and the timing belt was barely there. I replaced the belt and it runs great but the radio has never worked. I’ve checked all the fuses and all are ok. Anyone have any ideas? It also has a factory CD changer had that wont even spit out the magazine when I press the eject button.
Any help will be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Re: 99 Jetta --- no radio

My diagrams show fuse #37 hot w/key in & #42 hot at all times powering both the radio & CD player. I also have seen a "hidden" fuse holder above the main fuse/relay panel which also powers the radio & cig lighter.

Re: 99 Jetta --- no radio

does the face of the radio read "SAFE" when you turn the car on? if so, you should take it to a dealership and they will reprogram it for you. there's ways to find the procedure on the internet, but i don't know, as I've replaced the factory stereo in my 01. imho, just replace it. the stock stereo's wattage sucks anyway.
