u/s light
I just bought a 92 storm. What does the U/S warning sign mean? It seem to have something to do with shifting. I dont have an owners manual. Thank you!

It stands for "Up Shift," which is to say that the car is telling you it's time to shift to the next highest gear. It's based, in my opinion, just on fuel economy, and most of the time it comes on entirely too early. For instance, you could be climbing a steep hill, but as soon as the car detects you aren't pushing for strong acceleration, it will tell you to shift at around 2700RPM. Try it, you will probably stall. A few other cars from the early 90s had this so-called "feature" on their dash (the Ford Escort is one for sure), but I think it just annoys the hell out of most drivers so it's not popular.

Yep. The light is totally based on fuel economy. The one in Metro models comes on at 3000RPM, which, especially for that car, is too soon if you need to get up to speed. I know of several vehicles with this light. Saturns are one, and even my dad's manual tranny 91 Silverado has one. I guess at least at GM, all their manual trans equipped models had this light.
