Timing belt running out???

This is my 86, civic wagon, 1.5 engine.
I just re-installed it. After having a machine shop do the head.
It runs fine but.....
The timing belt is running out so far it's cut the plastic covers up.
What's the cause of that?

It wont Idle under 2000 either.
It seems to run hot, even with the Fan wired on all the time.

Cool

[color=royalblue]There are a few things that you might want to try first let the car get to normal operating temp then adjust the idle coltrol it is on the throdle body it takes a allen wrench but you can fine tune it .
second for the over heating make sure you have no leaks if that checks out look in to replacing your thermostat it could be old and getting stuck if the still dont help you might want to check to make sure the water pump is working.......

Re: Timing belt running out???

Thermostats tend to stick if they are used for a while and then exposed to air for a time (like when your head is in the shop). That's the first place to look. waterpumps can fail without seizing or leaking because the impellers wear out over time, and its hard to figure it out because it appears to be working.

Re: Timing belt running out???

I dont know on your car. On mine, it is under the cover that covers the timing belt. In general, you change the waterpump if you do the timing belt. It's only $30. That's if you pay to have somebody do it. If you can change the timing belt yourself it is not so critical labor wise. But I have had that happen on a different car - the waterpump appeared 100% ok. i replaced the thermostat and radiator. It still overheated. I replaced the waterpump and saw that the impellers were very worn. It ran perfect with a new waterpump.
