Need transmission help !!!
Ok heres the problem, 1992 Ford Explorer 4WD. When I start the truck in the morning and back out of the driveway into the road and put the selector into drive, I get nothing...just give it a minute or give slight throttle and it goes into gear and drives fine after that. Sometimes I have noticed lately that it downshifts into first at a light or stop sign almost after you have stopped. But the biggest question is why it runs fine all day...just does not want to go into drive right away in the morning. I have had the system flushed from the lines so as to replace all the fluid and replaced the tranny filter and added some Lucas. Any ideas what this could be?? almost seems like something sticking, like a valve body or something?? Any help much appreciated!

Re: Need transmission help !!!
Try it in D when you start out. That would verify it is not an OD One Way Clutch problem. I assume the filter was changed after this problem showed up. Sometimes there is a problem on the filter O ring and the tranny sucks air till the fluid warm up. Frankly, think it is just getting old. The seals are leaking to the forward clutch. Do you also have a delay going into reverse? The loe/reverse servo O ring is known to be a problem. This is used in reverse and first. There is a new updated double lip seal and this is easy to get at when the pan is dropped. Just four more bolts. If you stop that leak, the little check ball in the forward clutch might seal a little faster.

I have not noticed any delay going into reverse, its only going into OD when I go to take off. I have not tried taking off in drive, but when it won't go right away...there is one more thing I have noticed...when I say back out of the driveway and go to drive, nothing, so then I start moving the selector to low or drive or reverse and nothing goes into gear at all not any gears once I sit there and move it through all the gears nothing engages, so then I usually just put it back to OD and give her a bit of gas and it will grab gear and the rest of the day is problem free. Like I say...it seems only to be after the truck has sat over night. I have noticed a bit of a clunk when I let off on the gas or coming to a stop light , like its not doing a normal downshift or is delayed downshifting. I want to keep this truck, as I love it and its got a new engine last year. What to expect this might cost, or is it something I could try to fix or look at? I have lots of tools and space in garage to work on it.
