Gauge Cluster
I have a 2004 Yukon SLT 4wd, and I do not really like the stock gauge come with it. I really like the white lights and needles in the Escalade gauge cluster, I am thinking of buying and swap it out. The only thing I can find online is 2003 Escalade gauge cluster (GM parts # 15182142) for $240. I can not find 2004 model.
So, has anyone done this before? Would a 2003 escalade gauge cluster work with 2004 Yukon? |

Re: Gauge Cluster
Gene, Not sure about your years but I think so, I put a Escalade cluster in my 2000 and I love it. I had a bonded local speed shop set the mileage when installed. The local GMC dealer said they actually used them. Check Ebay sellers Fleet auto1 and Pt King. I have used them and they are Gm dealers and can answer your queston on thre specific years.

Re: Gauge Cluster
2003 & 2004 are the same (interchangeable), 2002 and older are different.

1. Have your new cluster programmed with VIN & current mileage. I had mine done at Speed-O-Tach in Concord, CA (http://www.sotelectronics.com/) for just $45 and 30 minutes of my time. 2. Disconnect negative battery cable. 3. Tilt steering wheel & put trans gear selector into lowest position. 4. Remove dash bezel. The bezel is held in place with spring clips around the perimeter. Remove the ashtray and start there, working your way around. 5. Remove four 7mm screws that mount the instrument cluster. 6. Lift cluster out and unplug the connector at the top. 7. Reverse instructions for installation of new cluster. Simple! |

Re: Gauge Cluster
I admit to installing two clusters in my '03 - first the standard Escalade and now the platinum version. Great how-to by Yukonuba. Kind of funny - I just posted directions on another forum as well.
Speed-o-Tach is flat-out awesome. Great folks. They're selling the platinum cluster for $260 w/ calibration. Keep that in mind folks - if you don't get it calibrated, and have the receipt signed off by the vendor - you're asking for trouble with any warranty related work. This is a great mod - not too expensive and it's something you can smile about every time you're behind the wheel. Just to follow up: clusters are distinguished as 00-02 and 03-current model years. The 03 and up use the DIC and are not interchangeable on older models. All functionality is retained, and it's a simple 10 minute swap. Take care, Jerry |

Re: Gauge Cluster
I just got my '04 Escalade Platinum Cluster from Speed-o-tach and they were great to work with. My Denali is brand new so all they needed was my VIN. Got it for $220 + $10 for 2nd day shipping. If you need one call Speed-o-tach At 925-691-4090 and talk with Cliff @ x531, he will set you up.
Warning - Be careful with the units on Ebay, you never know what you're going to get. Later, AO |

Got a question for all the mechanics on this board.
One of my buddies just told me that on all Yukons, the mileage is only stored within the gauge cluster, not in the main onboard computer. Is this true? |

Re: Gauge Cluster
Yes, it is true. The mileage and hour meter info are stored in the cluster itself, not the computer. This is why you need to give the mileage and hours along with your VIN # to Speed-o-Tach when you order the cluster so they can program the new one.

thx agentorange,
Doesn't this create a loophole for people to play around the mileage of a given car? For example, if a person buys a extra gauge cluster and swap between those two clusters every six month. When he is ready to sale the car, he puts in the orginal cluster with only the half "used" miles. Am I crazy to think like this? Just curous. |
