Car smoking real bad!

Hi,

As u know from my previous post I had a problem with my car smoking at about 4k rpm and above.
Well, i drained all my old oil and put in the 20w-50 valvoline engine oil for high mileage engines.
So anyways, as soon as i start my car up kinda bluish-whitish smoke will pour out. Then it will jus idle with noticible smoke coming out the exhaust only. i reved it to about 5 rpm and lets jus say i will never do that again because my whole garage was one big cloud of smoke.

I thought maybe my head gasket was blown but when i drianed my coolant there was absolutely no oil in it and there also was no water or coolant in the oil.

So i bought a compression gauge and mesured the compression and im gettin equal compression to all cylinders.

the car starts and runs perfectly just smokes horriblly.

this is what i think and it may sound stupid but it might be true.
When i had the smoking problem before i put Smoke Away in it.

So last night i drained all of the old oil along with the smoke away and put brand new oil in.

So you think because there is no more smoke away that its smoking that bad?

Also, im using 20w-50 oil for high mileage engines, wouldnt that be alot better for the smokin problem because its thicker?

I think later tonight im gonna buy some kinda of oil additive to try and get the problem fixed. If i can just get rid of most of the smoke i would be happy. even if i have to add the additive every oil change.
In the meantime i will have to consider a swap.

what oil additives do your recommend that will actually work?
I heard good stuff about Lucas, Restore, and Slick 50?

thanks

Re: Car smoking real bad!

Hey man I been having the same problem. My car has high miles too. It's normal for a higher milage car to smoke some what. The best that has worked for me so far was taking it for Firestone. I first had my fuel system cleaned for $100, my cat . convert is hollowed out so theres a lot of carbon build up cause it ran a little rich, after that I had the B.E.S.T oil change the offer for $30 a couple times in a row and it helped a lot. I barely smokes now which is amazing. They use this Clean-Rite stuff when you get the B.E.S.T oil change. Try that if theres a firestone near you. Besides that, the only other stuff I seen work was Restore & Turner Labs products.

Re: Car smoking real bad!

I don't know much about the additives, but I think you're problem may be bad piston rings. You see what happens is the rings are supposed to seal the space between the cylinder walls and the piston for optimum compression. The cylinder walls must stay lubricated to prevent friction between the pistons and its rings and the cylinder wall. It seems as if some of that oil is getting past the lower oil ring which is supposed to keep oil out of the combustion area of the piston, being burnt along with the air/fuel mixture in the combustion chamber and sent out of the tail pipe.

A short term solution would be thicker engine oil, or additives, but ultimately if you're going to keep this engine, you're going to need to change the rings.

Re: Car smoking real bad!

well, i was a short term solution to last maybe about 3 months.
I want to probably swap a ZC or possibly a B16 later. So i think im going to try the Restore formula and see what it does. Heard alot of good things about it. Also saw their ad in Motor Trend.

Re: Car smoking real bad!

yah, that RESTORE for 4 cylinders is great. I actually felt a small power increase in my smokin lx b4. Also dump a bunch of that lucas oil stabilizer. I know from experience that stuff is great. Also, like you said dump that 20w-50 in and that should keep the smoking down to a minimum. Just don't rev over 4k....and don't try to race anyone cuz it's sooo funny when I race people and there car has billows of blue smoke coming out the back....lol.
