Stripping Laquer

I've been experimenting with stripping Tamiya laquer (and Primer), and have discovered that 91% Isopropyl acohol will do the trick! Lower concentrations don't work readily (but the 91% stuff is only about $0.25 more than the 75%).

Use like you would CSC- immerse the body/parts in the alcohol, leave for a while. Cover the container if at all possible- the alcohol will evaporate quickly if not covered! Then, go at it with a toothbrush. It won't attack most plastics (any that I'm aware of- after all, it's sold in plastic bottles), but to be safe, test it by soaking a bit of runner overnight- if it doesn't soften/deteriorate, no worries!

Easy, cheap, safe, and non toxic (just don't drink it!) Won't ruin your health like messing with brake fluid, (gasp!) lighter fluid, Xtradethamine (tm), or any other pure concentrated evil that's sometimes recommended for the job. Won't even cause lye burns on skin like CSC.

It also works on Testors metalizer. I haven't tried with other types of laquer.

Re: Stripping Laquer

That's what I used to remove the bad nailpolish paintjob off the Testarossa I just posted.

Worked great! Soaked it for a couple hours and it flaked off perfectly.
